More plastics now accepted for recycling at Clinton County’s Rural Recycling Drop-off Centers

There is good news for residents of Clinton County who want to recycle more. The Recycling Drop-off Centers in Eagle (at Eagle Inn on the corner of Grand River Avenue and Grange Road – CLOSING MARCH 29TH, 2012), Fowler (behind the Fowler Department of Public Works on North Dr.), Maple Rapids (on Union Street next to the Community Center) and Pewamo-Westphalia (at Pewamo/Westphalia High School on Clintonia Road) will now be accepting #3 – #7 household plastic containers. Examples include plastic tubs for margarine, sour cream and cottage cheese; microwave trays; and yogurt containers.
These plastics will be accepted in addition to #1 and #2 plastic bottles, which are currently being collected at the Drop-off Centers. Visitors to the Drop-off Centers will find one container to be used for all mixed plastic (#1 water bottles and jugs, #2 laundry detergent/shampoo bottles and all #3 – #7 plastics).
Plastic materials that are not acceptable include the following:

  • Plastic Bags
  • Wax-coated, paper milk or juice cartons
  • Styrofoam containers/packaging
  • Syringes
  • Garden hoses/rubber
  • Furniture
  • Pool Toys

Polystyrene Foam Drop off Sites

Clinton County Department of Waste Management is happy to announce another option to recycle polystyrene.  Expanded polystyrene foam will now be accepted at the Meridian Recycling Center, thanks to a partnership between Dart Container Corp., Meridian Township, Reclaimed by Design, and YOU. See guidelines at https://www.dartcontainer.com/environment/ps-foam-recycling.  The Meridian Recycling Center is located at 5976 E. Lake Drive and is open during the following hours:

  • Dec 1 – Mar 31 * Monday and Friday: 2pm-6pm * Tues, Wed. & Thurs: 10am-6pm *Saturday: 10am-4pm
  • Apr 1 – Nov 30 * M, T, Th, & Fri: 3pm-7pm   * Wed  & Sat: 10am–5pm

Residents may also drop off their polystyrene at the LIONS Club Drop Off Recycling Center located in St Johns at the corner of Steel and Swegles Streets.  The LIONS Club Drop Off Recycling Center is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Please be aware that neither site can accept Styrofoam packing peanuts.
